The Gulf Shores Trip
Gulf Shores Trip
This year's ... 4/28-30/06 ... Gulf Shores trip was, a trip to remember. Life Scout, Rhett Sosebee's grandfather ... Mack Bell invited the troop to enjoy a weekend at his beach house. We were treated more like family, than Scouts on a routine outing.
After arriving late Friday night ... the real men ... spent the night in troop tents, which were set up around Mack's house.
Saturday mourning, after breakfast, we headed out to catch the ferry from Fort Morgan to Dauphin Island. The wind and waves were really up, while crossing the Bay. It was a thrilling ferry ride and you really needed your ... sea legs, if you walked around on the ferry.
Once on Dauphin island, we visited the Estuarium at Sea Lab and toured Fort Gaines. It was a learning experience for all. Due to the ... rough water ... in the bay, the ferry Captain elected not to run the service for the remainder of that day. So, we drove back to Gulf Shores.
Back at, Macks place, we had lunch, explored the beach, and relaxed. We also moved our tents, under a near by neighbors house. There were reports of bad weather, coming in, during the night and we didn't want to be caught, unprepared.
That night Mack and Koyt (Rhett's father), grilled and fried ... for the troop, some of the best tasting ... Bream, catfish ... hush puppies ...french fries ... and (I believe) Amber Jack, that I have ever tasted.
That night, the bad weather never came. It held off, till late Sunday mourning. We all thanked Mack for his ... Southern hospitality, and we load up and headed north.
Thank you, Mr. Mack Bell
Probally ... the Troop's, most exciting trip ... was the Ferry ride from Ft. Morgan to Dauphin Island
You needed your "Sea Legs" to make this trip
One of the many ... hands on displays ... of the Sea Lab at Dauphin Island's Estuarium
This was, what was called a ... Disappearing Gun Mount ... inside Fort Gaines ... on the Island
Everyone enjoyed, playing on the beach
A band of bad wheather was due to make ... land fall ... during the night. A nearby neighbor allowed us to, pitch our tents in the safety of their carport.
The below photos are of, The Fish Fry ... Saturday night. A photo of ... Mack's place, and Breaking Camp ... Sunday mourning.
As for the bad wheather ... it never came in.
